Narrative Scene

I have been busy working through my last year of school. I am taking a filmmaking class, and for the fall semester, my last project is to create a narrative scene. I chose to use dialogue from my novel and make it come alive! I am excited to share it with you soon, so stay tuned!

Descriptions

Aside from writing my novel, I am working on some poem ideas that I had jotted down a while ago. I think that poetry is harder than just writing a novel because it requires a special depth to it. Refer to this quote by Anton Chekhov:

“Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.”

I like what Mark Twain said about finding the right word, because it is important, especially in poetry:

“The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.”

I used to write poetry for fun, but I later started to write it in a way that taught the reader something and made him/her feel emotions. If I am to accomplish this, I have to reach great depth. There was a poet that I read about last week who only wrote one poem each year because he wanted to perfect it. He didn't want to just publish a poem, he wanted to write a masterpiece.

I sometimes struggle with good descriptions. I like to know exactly what is happening before I go into further detail, especially when you contemplate the complexity of my storyline. I write a movie script, literally. Then I add the details to make it interesting for the reader.

Late Update

Writing can be one of the most exciting things. Writers usually have other hobbies that they do in addition to their writing sprees. I personally enjoy filmmaking and am pursuing composing music. When I write, I write with a filmmaking vision in mind. I not only see exactly what I am writing, but I also consider how I would film it. When I listen to certain film, game, and trailer scores, I actually find music that would fit the film perfectly. One such song is by Two Steps From Hell titled Love & Loss. You can listen to it below. This song would fit the last minute of my story when everything wraps up. My story takes place in the future, like many other books, but it is closer to modern day than those other books. It not only takes a new, unique angle that helps explain in a closer way the reason for the things that happen, but it also is rather realistic. It is similar to the Bourne films except for the whole assassin part. I do believe that it is quite unique, and I will be happy to talk about it further.

Introducing: Hosting The Enemy

Hello, my name is Joshua. I am currently writing a novel named Hosting the Enemy, but I also enjoy writing poetry aside from it. My novel is going to be a two book series; I am trying to avoid writing three books for the series because it seems that is overly clichéd. I am writing chapter four this week, and should complete it by April or May of next year. In the meantime, I will be happy to share bits and pieces of it as I progress.
